Cocopanel

Cocopanel is decorative material made from coconut shell laminated on plywood.

The dried coconut shell is cleaned from its cocofiber on outside of the cocoshell as well as the scarf skin inside the cocoshell. Then the coconut shell being cut into the chips size.

The next step is sticking process of coconut shell chips on the plywood piled up with adhesive. That adhesive is using an epoxy adhesive.

Coco Panel is made from coconut shell chips laminated with epoxy adhesive on 4mm plywood.

HOW TO WORK WITH Cocopanel

The coconut shell is a kind of Hard material. And, normally the Hard material has a low flexibility. So that the fabrication technical of coco panel will be same as the fabrication method of HPL (High Pressure Laminated), like Formica, Wilsonart, etc.

Cutting.

Saw Cutting
    Tool : Circular Saw, Speed (rpm) 4000 – 6000
             Saw blade : minimum 40 teeth TCT (Tungsten Carbide Tipped) saw blade,
            the much more tooth may be a better result of cutting.

To prevent plywood chipping, apply paper masking tape on the plywood baking along saw cuts.

Router Cutting

Neither straight cutting, it recommended using Router Cutting Tool.
The speed recommended is more than 20,000 rpm.

Drilling

Drilling is always at the corner of the cocoshell chips, as the shape of the cocoshell chips is curve, so there is a space at between the coco chips and the plywood on the center part. The drill pressure on the center part will make the coconut shell chips broken. But, if should be drill on the center part, we recommend using router or trimmer.

Fastening

It recommend using screw, glue or combination of the two ones. Please apply the screw only at the corner of the coco shell chips. If should be apply the screw on the center part of the coco shell chips, please using the method as follows :

~ Make a hole on the coco shell as big as screw head or more using router or trimmer, and then make a hole as big as screw body on the plywood part, in order the screw will only pinch the plywood part.

If need to closed the hole on coco shell part, the standard wood putty can be used to fill on the hole, select the best match color of coco shell.

Gluing, all kind of wood adhesive can be applied.

Finishing

Coconut shell is a natural fiber material, same as normal wood. So, all the kind of finishing material use for wood can applicable on the surface of Cocopanel.
